The Margaret M. Shea RN Adult Day Health Program

Do you have a loved one who could benefit from medical supervision during the day, getting out of the house more, and being cared for by a great team of licensed professionals? The Margaret M. Shea RN Adult Day Health Program, located in Mattapan, may be the perfect place. Since 1980 they’ve offered care, camaraderie, and a home-like setting for adults and seniors who are frail, have disabilities, or otherwise need the support of a warm, welcoming environment during the day.

The program staff works closely with other departments at BMC, including PCPs, Nurses, Case Managers, Social Workers, OT/PT, and Nutritionists when the participant is a patient at the hospital.

The program is ideal for adults who don’t require ’round-the-clock care, but are not able to live completely independently. It also provides a way to stay both mentally and physically active, which is so important for overall health and happiness. Participants enjoy a variety of activities and nutritious meals together, Monday through Friday.

The program’s licensed staff provides families peace of mind and a support system to help them with decisions involving the care of their loved ones. “For some of our participants, our program is the difference between staying at home and having to be placed in a nursing home,” said Deborah Agati, Program Director. “Participants foster friendships with fellow attendees, they’re not isolated, and they’re able to stay more independent with interventions and education provided to them by an interdisciplinary team of providers.”

The team at the Margaret M. Shea RN Adult Day Health Program includes nurses, physical and occupational therapists, social worker and support staffing. Its services, including transportation, are covered in full by most insurances.
