Occupational Therapy Month is Here!
April is Occupational Therapy (OT) Month: a time to celebrate this important step in a patient’s road to recovery. OT treatment focuses on helping people with a physical, sensory, or cognitive disability be as independent as possible in all areas of their lives.
Some examples of patients commonly seen by occupational therapists may include: a child with disabilities who is learning to participate fully in school and social situations; someone who is recovering from an injury and needs to regain skills; or an older adult experiencing physical and mental changes. Services provided through OT typically include:
- An individualized care plan developed by the patient, their family, and the occupational therapist working together to achieve the patient’s goals
- Customized treatment to improve a person’s ability to perform daily activities and reach his or her goals
- An evaluation to measure how successful the treatment was, and to ensure that the patient’s goals are being met and/or make changes to the care plan.
