Support For People With Cancer

At Boston Medical Center, we know having cancer can be one of the most stressful events of your life. That is why we offer a variety of support groups, activities, and events to help you along your cancer journey. All who have ever been diagnosed with cancer, regardless of where or when they have been treated, are welcome.

We currently offer monthly support groups geared toward these specific cancers:

  • Blood (Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma)
  • Breast
  • Gastrointestinal
  • Head & Neck
  • Lung
  • Ovarian
  • Prostate

We also have general cancer support groups:

  • for Men
  • for Women
  • for Younger Women (42 and under)
  • Spanish-speaking
  • Haitian Creole-speaking
  • for Family/Caregivers
  • Spirituality
  • Bereavement

Support groups have been proven to help patients, and their families, better cope with the emotional aspects of cancer and gain a sense of control of their lives during challenging times. The safe and supportive environment allows participants to listen to and encourage one another, to share their fears and challenges, their hopes and triumphs, their knowledge and experience.

For those interested in exercise classes, we offer yoga, qigong/tai chi, “Healthy Steps,” and zumba. Other ongoing activities include knitting, arts & crafts, and nutritional cooking demonstrations.

Additionally, special events and programs are held throughout the year, including an annual survivorship celebration luncheon, recipe swap & potluck evenings, young survivors’ dinner socials, spa days, Museum of Fine Arts tours, guest presentations, and much more.

Free parking is available for all of our offerings. Meals are provided for many of them.

If you are interested in attending, please give us a call at 617-638-7540 or visit our online newsletter.
