Boston Medical Center’s Patient Family Advisory Council (PFAC) is committed to listening to the experiences of our patients, their families, and loved ones to improve hospital operations and to further the hospital’s mission.
Put simply, every person who comes to BMC for care has a tale to tell.
We know what people have to share is important. Individual stories have the power to create institutional change.
The PFAC is made up of current and former BMC patients, their family members, and hospital volunteers as well as BMC staff members.
Our members work together to help Boston Medical Center provide “Exceptional Care Without Exception.” They offer insights and recommendations for improving patient care, safety, and satisfaction. PFAC members also share ideas about how BMC can best serve its diverse patient population and reach out to patients in their communities.
Staff from hospital departments regularly consult with the PFAC for advice on patient experience initiatives and event planning.
The PFAC has been honored to be involved in a wide variety of projects, including:
- Redesign of BMC’s Emergency Room waiting area
- Expansion of Primary Care services
- Initiative to increase multilingual signage and interpretive services
- Revision of Patient Satisfaction Surveys
- Screening of a documentary for BMC medical students about helping patients in the ER
How to Get Involved
If you are interested in becoming a PFAC member, your participation will be warmly welcomed. Members attend monthly meetings where they share their experiences and ideas for improvement.
Meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. A light dinner is provided. Parking passes and taxi vouchers are also available.
