BMC Honors Mayor Menino
Statement from Kate Walsh, President and CEO of Boston Medical Center
October 30, 2014
“During his two decades in office, Mayor Menino had an enormous impact on the city of Boston, and nowhere more than right here at Boston Medical Center. His commitment to helping the vulnerable and underserved were the driving force behind the merger that created BMC – a merger that he fought tirelessly to complete.
Our staff and patients have countless memories of Mayor Menino. Whether he was here for a scheduled event or was simply stopping by to visit a patient or family in need of support, he made everyone he met know that they mattered. He had an incredible love for our city and all of its people that was evident in every action, every word.
On behalf of all of us at BMC and the hundreds of thousands of patients we have cared for over the past several decades, we will be forever indebted to Mayor Menino for his vision and leadership---and to his beloved family, who shared him with us for so many years. His legacy of commitment to improve the health of all of Boston’s residents lives on at BMC.”
